Bollywood to Tollywood: JKFDC receives over 400 applications for film shoots

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir has become a favorite destination for filmmakers to shoot films, dance sequences, and music videos.

J&K Film Development Council (JKFDC) has received more than 400 applications from producers to shoot in the union territory.

Data accessed by The Kashmir Monitor, reveal that 350 applications have been received by FDC through its online portal.

Around 116 applications have been approved so far. Of which, 104 film companies have booked locations in the valley.

From Bollywood to Tollywood, official sources said that directors from other regional cinemas have also expressed their interest to shoot in Kashmir.

“It includes many music video producers and independent filmmakers. Kashmir is their main theme. Many music videos were shot in Kashmir during winter and spring,” they said.

Through the JKFDC website, a filmmaker can choose a location and book it online. He or she can avail of incentives offered by the administration.

Last year, Jammu and Kashmir unveiled J&K Film Policy and formed a J&K Film Development council to facilitate movie shoots in the union territory.

J&K Film Development Council is a high-powered committee headed by a senior officer of the rank of Principal Secretary to the government. It has been tasked to create an ecosystem for making Jammu and Kashmir a preferred destination for film shoots.

Under the film policy, the administration is envisaging to re-open cinema halls and multiplexes in Jammu and Kashmir.

Jammu and Kashmir administration is also making security arrangements free of cost to enable the filmmakers to complete shooting without any hassles.

For the last one year, many films and music videos have been shot in the valley. These include Aamir Khan-starrer  Lal Singh Chadha and Vijay Deverakonda’s Kushi. Udit Narayan and Lakhwinder Wadali also shot music videos in Kashmir recently.

Pertinently, JKFDC in association with the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) is organizing a five-day National Film Festival in Srinagar from June 15.
