Srinagar, Sep 16 (KB): No traces of hidden militants have been sighted yet in the ongoing gun battle, which began in the Gadool forest area of Kokernag hamlet in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Wednesday and has now entered its 4th day. The total number of casualties on the forces’ side stands at four, while no signs of hidden militants have been spotted at the encounter site, sources said here.
The operation has persisted for the past four days, and the cordon has been tightened to prevent the militants from escaping. All state-of-the-art weapons, including drones, RPG launchers, and others, have been deployed in the search. It’s worth noting that heavy rains have temporarily halted operational activities.
Reliable sources told JK Mega (KB), that the encounter in the Gadool forest has entered its 4th day, with no visible signs of hidden militant bodies at the encounter site. “Yesterday, another army jawan succumbed to injuries, bringing the total number of casualties to four among the security forces since day one.”
An intermittent exchange of fire between the forces and the hiding militants persisted throughout yesterday and has resumed this morning.
Additionally, sources added that Lt. Gen. Upendra Dwivedi, Army Commander for the Northern Command, reviewed the operational situation in the ongoing operations at Kokernag forest area in Anantnag. He was briefed by the ground commanders on the High-Intensity Operations in which high-tech equipment is being used for surveillance and firepower delivery, along with the high impact of precision fire being utilized by the forces.
Previously, the police stated that the forces had encircled two Lashkar-e-Toiba militants, including Uzair Khan, a local militant, in the Gadool area of Kokernag. “On Wednesday, a colonel, major, and a DSP of J&K police were killed in the initial assault by the militants.”
Lastly, ADGP Kashmir emphasized that retired police and army officers should refrain from the “Ambush Hypothesis” as it is a specific input-based operation, and all 2-3 trapped militants will be neutralized. (Kashmir Bulletin – KB)
